Penetron Keeps Singapore Airport Project On Track for Fall Opening - Concrete substructure for Asia's biggest hub waterproofed for next steps
Terminal 3 at Changi Airport, Singapore, has been completely waterproofed with Penetron products in preparation for the next phase of construction. Completed project will span 7 levels with 28 gates and an additional 1800 parking spaces.
East Setauket, NY May 28, 2004 -- ICS Penetron International Ltd., a global leader in industrial waterproofing products for major construction projects, today announced that it has completed its part in a major international project taking place at Singapore Changi Airport, which is being built by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. Penetron Admix has been applied to all concrete substructures of Terminal 3a large part of the new airport that when completed will spread over seven levels, including a three-level basement, house 28 aircraft boarding gates and add another 1,800 parking spaces. The airport is expected to complete by 2007.
Its crucial to choose a right waterproofing system for such a fast track project, said Gary Loh, Managing Director of Reverton Engineering (S) Pte Ltd. "Meeting our deadline is important, but achieving a watertight structure is our primary objective." The Penetron System was chosen because it heals and seals concrete, according to Mr. Loh, and because its easy to use and can be applied flexiblyeven to wet concrete. "That kind of usability is what we count on to help us meet demanding schedules and deliver the results we want.
Robert Revera, president of ICS Penetron, says it was a challenge to meet the schedule. But we enjoyed working with Reverton Engineering because they operate with the highest standards in the design-and-build construction industry, said Mr. Revera. Our partnership with them is grounded in our mutual confidence that performance standards will always be met in these mission-critical projects for international governments.
To waterproof and protect them, the entire foundation and slab (140,000 m3) of Terminal 3 were coated with the Penetron Admix along with partial use of two other components of the SystemPenetron Slurry and Penecrete mortar. The Penetron Waterproofing System uses chemicals that fill cracks, voids and spaces to stop leaking yet still allow concrete to breathe.
